Connect a channel
WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and Telegram, and what one project can hold.
A project with no channel has nowhere to send or receive. Channels are connected during setup, or later from the project's Settings, under Integrations.
What can be connected

Each one gets its own settings pane under Integrations once it is connected.
A project holds one WhatsApp number, one Facebook page and one Instagram account. A second number is a second project. This is what keeps a conversation's history in one place rather than split across two inboxes that both think they own it.
Disconnecting
Disconnecting a Meta channel also stops Meta sending us its messages, so the project goes quiet on that channel straight away. The conversations you already have stay where they are.
When a channel is connected but nothing arrives
First check that the channel still shows as connected in its own settings pane, and that the number, page or account is not also connected to another tool, which is the usual reason messages go somewhere else.
If that looks right and a test message still does not arrive, tell support. A silent channel is almost always one of three connections between Meta and us, and they can see all three.
